About the Event
In light of the imminent overturn of Roe v. Wade later this month, over half of America will face catastrophic barriers to abortion access as states create outright bans or heightened restrictions on abortion. Many people have faced these barriers for years, and have sought the support of abortion funds to provide them with the financial and practical support necessary to access they care they seek. Blue Ridge Abortion Fund and the Charlottesville Democratic Committee ("Cville Dems") are hosting a virtual panel to discus the impacts of the SCOTUS ruling on our community and beyond, as people are being forced to travel for abortion care, with many coming to Virginia as a receiving state where abortion is accessible. How do abortion funds build community and create safety, equity and accessibility for people seeking abortion care? Abortion bans anywhere impact abortion access everywhere. Learn from communities who’ve had limited access how they’ve navigated abortion restrictions, and discover how each of us can make a difference to folks seeking abortion care in a post-Roe world. You'll come away with a deeper understanding of how we got here, how the potential overturning of Roe isn't just about abortion, and how to talk about abortion access as a moral and community good.
